Prior Notice

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandatorily requires that all shipments of food, beverages and supplements be assisted by a Prior Notice. A Prior Notice consists of a communication to the FDA that contains the commercial and shipping details of the shipment. This communication is registered with the FDA. Once the Prior Notice has been filed, the shipment is assigned an identification code used by the FDA to catalog the transport. It is essential that the shipper has previously obtained an FDA Registration to validly carry out the Prior Notice.

The service:

MTCB completes Prior Notices on behalf of the requesting companies, making sure that these are filled in correctly.

How long does it take to get a prior notice?

Usually we file it within 48 hours, but also offer a same day filing service in case of urgency (extra fee may apply).

What happens if a prior notice is not filed?

Without a valid Prior Notice, the shipment will be rejected or detained upon arrival at customs.

Fill in the form. We will get back to you within 24 hours.
